It is necessary to obtain an eTA using the earlier procedure to apply for an e-Visa . Airlines wouldn't be able to board the e-Visas without the eTA. As long as they also bring their previous passport, on which the eTA was issued, e-visa applicants who go to India using a different passport from the one indicated in the eTA will be allowed entry.
The e-visa option is available for the following five visa categories:
Electronic visas (e-Visas) fall into five categories: e-Conferences, e-Tourists, e-Businesses, e-Medicals, and e-Medical Attendant Visas. Foreign nationals may engage in activities covered by the categories above, except those applying for the latter. Foreign people who apply for the latter type of visa can only participate in activities that fall within the e-Tourist category (e-Conference visas are only valid for 30 days). Only one e-Medicals visa will be exchanged for a maximum of two e-Medicals.
It is possible for applicants from the countries and territories that have been approved to submit their electronic visa applications (e-Tourist or e-Business) at least four days in advance of the intended date of arrival.
Applicants for an e-Medical visa, e-Medical attendant visa and e-Business visa may also submit an online application form at least four days before the intended date of arrival and 120 days before the planned date.
Applicants must submit up-to-date front-facing photographs with a white background and personal information on the front of the passport. Additional documents may be requested depending on the visa type. An application may be rejected if the submitted documentation and images are inadequate or not following the requirements.
Because the fee is incurred to process the application, the fee for e-Visa cannot be refunded. Applicants must have a valid eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) during travel. The Civil Authority has to give you the go-ahead before you can go to the Protected / Restricted cantonment areas with a non-transferable, unchangeable, and expired visa.
The passport on which the eVisa application was submitted must be used for travel. Even though the eTA was altered when the old passport was issued, entry into India may still be permitted with it. In such circumstances, a traveller must present the old passport on which the eTA was modified and issued.
The list below includes the documentation that must be submitted with each form of eVisa. All supporting documentation, such as business cards and letters of invitation, must be submitted in English for the application to be accepted.
An e-Tourist visa validates one year and allows for repeated entries. The maximum duration of an e-Visa for a foreign national is 90 days. A foreigner with an e-Visa may stay for up to 180 days.
The e-Business visa is valid for up to one year and multiple entries. For nationals of all countries who qualify, the maximum length of time that an individual may stay continuously on an e-business visa is 180 days. Foreigners must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) if they plan to stay on an e-business visa for over 180 days.
For e-Business VisaFor up to three entries over 60 days, an e-Medical visa may be granted. Two e-Medical attendants visas may also be awarded simultaneously as an e-Medical visa.

A single-entry e-Conference Visa is valid for 30 days. Foreigners can only join the activities permitted under the e-Tourist Visa categories (except for applicants for e-Conference Visas).
For e-Conference VisaThe sort of eVisa that the traveller obtains will determine how long it will be valid for travel to India. A maximum of 180 days may be spent in the country on each visit with the tourist visa's 90-day validity and the eBusiness visa's 180-day validity. A tourist or business visa is valid for a year after approval, except for the eMedical Patient and eMedical Companion visas, which have a 60-day validity.
There are 28 authorized airports and five seaports where the Indian eVisa can be utilized for entrance, but foreign travellers must arrive before the visa expiration date. This visa cannot be used to travel to restricted locations, and its validity cannot be extended past its initial length. A copy of the eMedical Patient or eBusiness visa must always be carried by everyone who applies for an eVisa.
A minimum of six months must pass after the date you want to arrive in India for your passport to remain valid. As border and immigration officers stamp your passport upon entry and exit, your passport must have two blank pages.
